Pizza Acrobats Showcase their Talent at Pizza World Championship in Parma

The 2014 Pizza World Championship (Campionato mondiale della pizza) took place in Parma last week. It is one of the most important event in the world of pizza. The 23rd edition saw 600 pizza makers from all over the world compete for the best creations.

The winner of the "Classic Pizza" prize was Giulio Scialpi, from Putignano (Bari) with his Contadina pizza, made with mozzarella, stracciatella, eggplant, caciocavallo, bread crumbs with anchovies and burrata.

The world's best margherita pizza prize went to Australian Johnny Di Francesco, owner of 400 Gradi restaurant in Melbourne. He trained at the prestigious Associazione Verace Pizza Napoletana in Naples.

The event also featured a competition for acrobatic pizza performances, from free-styling to large pizza dough spinning.
