I travelled via Belgium last week and decided to stay overnight at Dinant, where I have stayed previously and found to be marginally less bad than most towns in Belgium. To anyone contemplating a similar stop - don't.The whole of the town is being

My wife and I want to boost our Italian learning with a short intensive course in Italy.

At La Dolce Vita exhibition at Olympia this year I bought a jar of garlic cloves preserved in a pizzaiola type oil and vinegar mixture. It is just amazing for snacking, the whole cloves are really crunchy with a fairly mild flavour of the garlic an

I need to buy a tyre for my car. I googled all the usual words but came up with nothing. Back in UK I would simply go to Kwikfit, or ATS etc and it would be done on the spot.

Does anybody have a contact for a sun blind maker?Think of a conventional, rather old-fashioned roller blind with the roller fixed at the top of the window and the blind hanging vertically down.

Or........that stuff about Saga could be a load of b.......cks as I can't find anything in my Saga policy that even suggests such a thing. As far as they are concerned, it's a UK car but with unrestricted use in EU countries 12 months a year. Not a problem for me as I spend 6 months in UK anyway. As to whether you need an MoT - I would be guessing that a valid MoT would be one of the first things an insurance company would look for in the event of a claim, no matter what the legal requirements of the UK authorities. Further, I'm pretty sure that if I got pulled (again!) in a random police roadside check they would have an issue with the car not being taxed - even if I had a current revisione. And you can't get your UK tax disc without an MoT - the system won't allow it.

And it's not exactly Ryanair's own card, even though it may have their name on it - that's not quite how it works. On a different tack, I've flown Ryan "a few times" and only ever had good experiences. They also are known to have the most modern fleet in the air.

One of the nicest places for a cruise stop is Portofino, which can be combined with the islands of Sardinia and Elba. I went there on the Star Clipper, a four masted barquentine which sailed out of Cannes, which gives you a wonderful - and very different - cruise experience. I've also cruised there with Silversea, a totally 6 star line, of which I remarked at the time "I've never been looked after better". I've also stopped at Taormina (Sicily), Salerno, Sorrento, Rome (Civitavecchia), Naples (for things like Capri and the Blue Grotto) and I remember a somewhat less attractive stop at Livorno. Highly recommended - enjoy your cruise.

The alternative is that the winter hire cost includes the cost of snow chains without any option. Let's face it, the car hire companies are not going to supply chains for free just because you have pointed out a legal obligation against them.

Lucerne is too close to my place so I will probably never stay there, but I have stayed just short of there, in Sursee, which is a really pleasant little town with good hotels and restaurants. Probably better priced than Lucerne too - you might like to check it out on Tripadvisor unless you can get a good recommendation from here.

"I use other fora which are better and Italian". The first one on Rickardo's list - my.lifeinitaly - is hardly Italian, as most of the moderators live in the US. I dipped into one thread only to find the contributors praising America for making the world peaceful (yeah right) and that was enough for me. I've been on American forums (sic) - if you break a nail they start a prayer chain for you (only slightly joking). This forum, by contrast, has a more British nature to it which is a totally different feel to an American forum. Not necessarily better, just different. At the end of the day, a forum is what its contributors make it. This forum, like most others, has its juvenile section who think it's very big and very clever to rubbish other people, but if one of them brandishes its double-figure IQ at me I tend to simply ignore it. The most dangerous people are those who knock the forum itself - they are the ones who try to spread negativity - to what end, I wonder? Surely if you don't like a forum you just quietly disappear rather than trying to do damage by serenading your departure. I was surprised to find I am actually a member of mylifeinitaly but I clearly moved away a long time ago. Any guesses as to how many times Sprostoni has revisited in order to check how much impact they made by leaving?

If you do get bitten, use a piezo zapper as soon as you can and you won't suffer the itch. These things really work - I've had one or two around the house for years now and find them really effective. Amazon do them, but I also found them in Sainsbury's so guess they are widely available.

Neither of the downloads will work on my Mac - does anyone know what the advantages of membership are?  I've been able to play everywhere I've asked so far, so maybe there's a discount against green fees....or something? Terry
