Hi Ritaruth, We seem to be in very similar situation to yourselves. My understanding : If you are resident here, you should pay taxes here, you get a sort of allowance against the UK taxes that is paid at source (so that you don't pay twice). BUT................. 1. If it is a 'government' pension only, then you pay taxes only in the UK (at source), 2. If it is a 'private' pension, you should pay your taxes here (claiming the allowance mentioned earlier). Bear in mind, I think you pay taxes on the total income, you don't get any 'tax free allowance' here, end result being that you would end up paying more taxes (here). I think my understanding is correct, but there are many more knowledgeable  folks here than myself ! Enjoy life here ! S

Bravo mugginsnomore and thanks for the update. Do you know what quantity of data you are downloading per 28 days (or month)? I've had a detailed look and it is GOOD but expensive! (although the one that I have looked at is Italia Wi-Fi, using the same satellite (eutel ka sat - launched Dec 2010): http://www.italia-wifi.com/satellite-internet-connections.html I know it is now installed very locally to me. I think there has been conversations about this before a few years back ? I can imagine the rules changing and being tweaked over the years as new eco friendly legislation comes into being, but surely there should be a single entity responsible for carrying out all of the checks and certification? Who actually decides that the 10 year old certificate is still relevant, especially if the seller claims no changes have been made? I KNOW we are not in the UK, but in the main this sort of thing is carried out by Building Control and Planning Officers me thinks................I assume the local technico would be the equivalent here? I see newbies here renting and then buying property and I always say 'make sure that you get a certificate of agibilita'............some of the properties are so ramshackle you wonder where the certificates come from! A costly exercise !

I think logically, what you are suggesting as your second line of thinking makes sense in the EU. I'm not so sure for others (say Americans)? "The reasoning is particular to foreigners, now resident in Italy, who retained a house in their native country (purchased prior to their arrival in Italy) which could be considered their 'prima casa' outside Italy. Again, my personal view is that this will pass Brussels scrutiny (if only because if anybody knows EU law inside out it is Monti)." I suppose there could become an EU definition of prima casa? So anybody with more than one property anywhere in the EU, could only claim only one of them as their prima casa within/across the EU? This could take some time implementing ! S

Hi mbc, I cannot imagine where the other posts have gone............it might be due to a conflict with an advertiser, but if it is, it would be courteous of someone 'official' to let you know this. Re the property, it would be useful to show some photos, actual location and also maybe the asking price ? These are the sorts of things you would typically see on any immobiliare's website ? Good luck, S
