Hello all. Just wanted to introduce myself. We live in Canada and have been visiting Italy for the last few years. Got married in Siena last year. We are hoping to find some property in the next couple of years.
Rick, You've made your point and proved your experiment. Move on. I would like to get back to discussing the Euro crisis and world economy. I agree with Fillide that this is definitely one of the most interesting discussions I've seen. Ugo, thank you for allowing your post to be totally hijacked and also for participating in the discussion. I wish you much success in the sale of the property.
A post to sell a house and I find one of the most interesting debates on the politics and economics of Europe and Italy. Thank you all for the input. Unfortunately while the property is lovely, I can't afford it and like esme it's too big for me. Ugo, I wish you well in pursuing the sale. I think whoever buys it will get a great value.

My favourite restaurant in all of Tuscany is in Montalcino. Just down from the castle at Nr 32 (I think Via Ricasoli) is Osteria Di Porta Al Cassero. It is not fancy, just a very small restaurant. Very authentic Tuscan cuisine. I had the best rabbit and also a fantastic mushroom soup. We went back last year to try it again but were there before it opened and couldn't wait as we had other commitments. We go again in the fall and I will dine there this time. Have a great trip! I am one of the people on this forum who does "Holiday" in Italy although we are looking at buying. When we are there we usually stay in an agriturismo when visiting Tuscany or Northern Italy. We use it as a base and try to position ourselves to take driving day trips in all directions. I have to agree with Gala. When we want to visit the big cities for a few days we would be more likely to stay downtown close to the action. We find a large part of the enjoyment of visiting is the night life. With a choice between taking a train back (even if only a twenty minute ride) or just a five minute stroll back to the hotel, we would choose the latter. For us, being tourists and not knowing the city, it is not only the train ride. It's also that we need to be concerned with things like making sure we get the right ticket, get on the right train. If it's quite late are the trains still running. Are they secure late at night. These are all things that locals would know and perhaps the people reading this are thinking these are not things to be concerned with. However, I believe these are things that your clients would consider. Having said all the above, your description does sound like it would be a lovely place to stay. Good luck with your decision.
Welcome to you too willc. Sounds like you're already way ahead of us in the house buying department. Congratulations. Piedmont (like all of Italy ) is beautiful. We live in Calgary which is in Western Canada. Never been to Quebec. It actually cost us about the same to fly to Europe as to Quebec.
The movie watching regulation reminded me of the time a couple of years ago that we were driving from Paris to Milan. As we approached a car from behind (both of us travelling at somewhat over 100km/h) we noticed the lone drive had his window rolled down and his left leg was hanging outside the car. When we finally passed him the reason became apparent. It was to make it easier to prop up the book in his lap which he was reading. Wonder if the fine for hardcopy would be less than for digital media.
