For some time now we've bought our wine by the demijohn from Azienda Agricola Saladini Pilastri near Spinetoli on the Salaria. Not only is it excellent value - generally about 1 euro per litre, but also they issue a loyalty card that's stamped every time you spend 5 euros, and when it's full then you get a free demijohn of wine of your choice, or a couple of 2 litre bottles of Rosso Piceno. Also reduces the price even more.

Well, as you say, a small world! Celts Romans Mercians Danes were we...Grannie was a real star; her sort of teaching obviously stood apart, and she was far ahead of her time! I never got on with Mr Teague, as he was not a fan of my improvised French! Planky Wood was great, but obviously not being a Mercian I couldn't spend time with him...I think you were in Barry Farnsworth's year. Incidentally I was the drummer in Clockwork Orange, the 'pop' group invented by the Mr Clark the music teacher with the posh voice. I majored in Art with Clara Bailey, later to be replaced by Geoff Richards. We generally had our histroy of art lessons in the Gate on Smedley Street.Bad news is I've still got those long and wide school photos, so maybe one day....

We declared a corner of our kitchen 'The Jean's Arms', and have it fitted with a swinging pub style sign, menu, dartboard and soon to arrive Pub Skittles game. Around the bar we have proper bar stools, and generally each night at 7;00 p.m., unless I'm at training; we open the Pub. Fame has spread amongst some of our 'Anglesized' Italian friends, and the other night Bibo actually dropped in for a beer. We've found some reasonably nice German beer at Lidl, bit strong at 7.5% but hey.... Snacks on the bar; game of darts; one night Jean even created chicken in a basket. Sad?p.s. here's a proposal; Pub Crawl?

I know exactly what you mean, we had a Grocery Shop in UK, and used Macro regularly. We've found the very best value for paper plates; cups / glasses etc to be at Maury in Ascoli; on the other side of the railway line to Oasi and just past the barracks.I'll certainly have a look price wise, and let you know about the meaty things etc.

Now then, I reckon if you're Robert then we both had to dodge the chisels that Basher Wooton flung around the woodwork sheds, if you're Angie then probably you also had to suffer Grannie Bowser's very animated history lessons and Godfrey Curry's rather particular lessons also. Did you by any chance know a prefect called David Moseley? John Paulson was Head Boy I think. I was born in 1951 incidentally. My Dad had the grocers on Smedley Street, and we delivered all over Stalkholmes as well.

There is indeed a C&C in San Benedetto, and I'm due to visit with a mate of mine who has a restaurant. If you are thinking of cataering stuff for the BBQ I know he'll help out regards getting in etc.

Wed, 05/20/2009 - 10:12

Not withstanding strange happenings we'll be there! Please let us know what we can prepare to contribute to the catering etc.

Hi folks; o.k., let's get more specific. Smedley Street / Farley Hill? Ernest Bailey Grammar School? Jepson's the Grocers? or even...Matlock County Junior School? Matlock (Bailean's) R.U.F.C.? Sycamore Inn on Friday nights?

Hi Mox; don't know anything about the BBQ for L'Aquila; where will it be held? Wre've already sent a collection via our club - Legio Picena - and I've personally sent a load of kit etc. to Paganica Rugby. We also charge all the players 5 euros to take part in the touch tournament, and taht may well go to the earthquake fund. Personally I have a few mates that play at L'Aquila, and their strength of character is incredible. One - actually an Ital/South African; wouldn't leave the zone even when told to as he was so involved.
