There is a hugely important element to the manovra published yesterday. For people who took residence in Italy to get prima casa, but dont actually live here...From 2012 you will pay 7/1000 on the value of any property owned OUTSIDE ITaly.

So the Nationwide has introduced bank charges - £1 fee and 2% commission on every withdrawal via ATM abroad - Im gutted. But, I had no advance warning and am also deeply annoyed. Anyone else in the same boat?

Does anyone have any info on the scudo fiscale. It seems that the new version is not only retroactive, but anyone bringing money into Italy could be liable for 5% tax if they are resident.

What you need are the visure catastale of your land - the easiest way is to do it by soggetto - ie you - and it will give you a nice map of what you own. The map you need are the Military maps which are the best - and most detailed - but they are only sold by specialist outlets - you need to find a cartoleria which sells maps by the Istituto Geografico Militare - they're not cheap but they're the best, highest res 1:25000 maps there are.
it all depends on how long you have had residency in your comune. If you have had residency for more than hal the time you have owned the house then there is no problem. However, if you turn your house into a second home for letting, and do not buy another prima casa within a year you lose your prima casa agevolazione for good.

This summer the new airport at Comiso open near Ragusa. Jet2 will be flying from Manchester, and Ryanair will be flying from everywhere, plus other low cost airlines. The airport is for charter and low cost with scheduled lines flying into Catania - it will certainly help to open up this part of Sicily.
